KRKs give more of a "clubby" output which helps to lend them to be more popular among producers, Genelecs give a more flat sound though which is better in the end for a good accurate mixdown.
I use KRK Rokit5s myself though, and love them. :)

Just lemme correct that for you :P

KRK's are popular because they are cheap and were marketed extremely well. For the same price you could have a lovely set of Yamaha HS*, low end mackies or Adams .. or a 2nd hand pair of Genelecs or Dynaudios if you were lucky.

Krk might be good for hifi , but for mixing Adams or Genelecs :)

I do not understand KRK as well, for the same price I got some Pioneer monitors...

There's also a great deal of taste involved as well as knowing your monitors. If one doesn't like the sound of for instance a Genelec but does like the sound of a KRK, one would be stupid to buy the Genelec just because the figures say it's better.

Not saying that this is my opinion, I've worked with both and like both. Tho taste and knowing your monitors is as important as good monitors imo, so that could explain why people would pick KRK :)
