Tracks that changed before release

Post by SarahKerrigan »

Hey!

I was thinking about this for awhile when year(s) later tracks actually gets released and they've been changed and I've been kinda curious as to what happens to "previous" versions. Are they just left to rot on the artist(s) harddrive or is this maybe something they can eventually release or give out for free? I can think of a few on the top of my head that I feel changed for the worse and of one that got better! But I'm curious to see if there's more out there that you know of! I feel like the first version you hear and connect with will always be your favorite one but maybe that's not always the case! But anyways! Onto the 3 examples that I had:

Atmozfears & Frequencerz - Let's Get It On
Spoiler
Old:

New:
Now I know for a fact Frequencerz wanted it to sound more like them but imo this track got a lot worse doing that. I would LOVE to somehow get the old version :D

Atmozfears & Devin Wild - Gladiators
Spoiler
Old:

New:
The example where I think the track got better, the melody sounds a lot better and more "full" than the old version even if there's just a few notes more, it definitely adds to the track and overall just sounds better to me!

Atmozfears ft. Villain - Darkness
Spoiler
Old:

New:
I personally dont mind Villain in this track and I think that he adds to it rather than ruin it, but the lack of the first climax. The reverse bass in there, I just miss it so much. I think it added a lot to the track having it and it sounds so bouncy and it makes the 2nd climax sounds better, even though the final version only had the one I feel like it made a track I really like worse by not having the reversebass one aswell :D

I also wanted to add Atmozfears & Sound Rush's remix of Pillars of Creation that I feel got way better with the reversebass midintro but I thought I'd keep it to three Atmozfears tracks and not just fill this up. So I'm curious if you have any examples, maybe somehow we can get the old ones released regardless of how old they are? I know for one I would love these 2 old ones and the Qlimax edit of Shocker (can't help it).. Please artists? Pretty please!

I think Necropsy got worse the time passed in its evolution and only the 2014 version had an official release while the rest was released free later. First version is one of the heaviest early 2010s raw track
Spoiler

Rebirth Of The Sun by Frontliner also had two different versions although I think it changed for the better at the release (which I think was played in his Defqon.1 2010 set already)
Spoiler

and in hardcore (even though it's a hardstyle section) Wavolizer's Different Things were changed from the version played in Defqon.1 2015

I think it's kinda fun to see how they change their tracks and I am curious as to why they do it, I hadn't heard about the Different Things track but it's been added to my hardcore list so thank you for adding that :D Wish there was some insight on this to be honest but then again I dont know how much everyone else would care. I just like to see the differences (for better or for worse!)

First one that pops in my head

Old

New

The perfect example how important a kick is.
The old version was perfect while the new and released one was awful with the new kick...

I was really disappointed :paranoid:

Uhhh that honestly killed the track imo, that made it so much worse! It's got like no drive? Was that on BM or Scantraxx to change it? I know Adrenalize before he was Adrenalize gave a free album on here which then got on Scantraxx, which I guess had him add vocals to the tracks(?) and it completely ruined them too. But I cannot remember if I am 100% correct on this so take it with a grain of salt, but I believe Voice of Passion for instance was out there without vocals before and was so much better. Almost like this example got changed and just ruined :(

Wildstylez & TNT - Exist will forever be my ultimate 'changed for the release' butthurt. The version that was played the first had a different, imo way better melody i completely fell in love with. I almost cried when I was listening to the release for the first time. They had a perfect opportunity for 2 climaxes with 2 melodies but they just went for 2 climaxes with the meh new melody instead.

Also out the top of my head
- Frontliner - Greenhouse (first version had a better, more agressive reverse bass)
- Bass Modulators - Music Is My Life (the first version has a reverse bass intro, they changed it into a generic dong kick of that era for the release)
- Hhz & dbstf - Keepers Of the Legacy (they made the tune sound like a generic raw track for the release - removed one climax, replaced it with an anti, changed the kicks, completely remade the sounddesign. the very first version was a lot different, they completely pissed me off with this one)
- DBSTF & Isaac - Harder State Of Mind - they cut out half of the intro for the release
- TNT - Remedy (they basically made q completely different tune out of it for the release, free released the other version later)
- HHz - Now is the time (outro removed for the release, different kick, the old vrs got leaked fortunately)
- Wildtylez - Extraordinary Happiness (well, technically never released, was a giveaway tune, but the very first version was totally different then the free released one)
- Tuneboy - Dirty (Wildstylez Remix) (the version that Wildstylez played first was pretty much a completely different tune than the released version. Hardly doubt you'd find a sample today tho)
- Wildstylez - Back To Basics (had a different intro)

Producers probably have multiple versions of the same track we don't know about but they might use part(s) of them glued together changing the outcome from one time to another and they're more satisfied. Gigs are also perfect for getting a feedback in terms of how it sounds when it's played on a different speaker, in different outer conditions you had in the studio so you might actually change your mind later. I'm also just speculating as it varies from person to person :P
